Journal of Geochemical Exploration - Special Issue

Title: FLUIDS IN GEOLOGICAL PROCESSES

Submission Deadline: 1st of May, 2009

Guest Editors Order: A. Schmidt Mumm (managing guest editor), J. Brugger and C. Zhao

While the GEOFLUIDS VI conference was running, the Journal of Geochemical Exploration has opened the gateway for the submission of manuscripts for our Special Issue. I haven't been able to put thi up on the website earlier as I was taking a group of delegates on a short field trip to the Olympic Dam and Prominent Hill mines and the Hillside exploration site.

Manuscript details

We are expecting quite a large number of manuscripts to be submitted for this special issue and we intend to have a representation of the width of the filed of science on Fluids in Geological Processes. Since we are allocated a limited number of printed pages for this special issue we will have to select quite vigurously and apart from scientific content, selection criteria will also be the quality of the writing and the length (or brevity) of the manuscript. I recommend that you don't submit papers of more than approximately 15 printed pages to increase you chances of getting your paper published.

PDF, No Page Charges

Each corresponding author will receive a PDF file of his paper. There are no page charges.
Should you wish to order additional copies of the issue, please contact t.horscroft@elsevier.com once the review of the volume nears completion for pricing information.

Proofs

Each corresponding authors will receive a PDF file or proofs for checking.

Colour

Colour on the web is free of charge. Colour figures in the printed version incur a charge of €270 per figure. Authors must indicate which figures should be published in colour in the printed version, and that they are willing to cover the costs involved.

Submission

Submittal takes place via http://ees.elsevier.com/gexplo/.

To ensure that all manuscripts are correctly identified for inclusion into the special issue it is of utmost importance that authors select "Special Issue: GeofluidsResPapers" when they reach the "Article Type" step in the submission process. Please make sure to follow this instruction. The article type "Special Issue: GeofluidsResPapers" is available as of now, so you can start submitting papers.

Pares submitted must fit into the overall range of research topics of the Journal of Geochemical Exploration. This may exclude for example papers with a strong focus on hydrocarbons. Please refer to the Journals "Aims and Scope" for details on content.

All manuscripts will undergo a thorough peer review similar to regular manuscripts submitted to the journal.Time schedule:

Please note carefully the schedule below:

1 May 09: Submission deadline.

15 June 09: Deadline receipt last review

1 Aug 09: Deadline receipt revisions

15 Sep 09: Deadline receipt of re-revisions after any re-review

1 Oct 09: Acceptance last ms by chief editor

The Organising Committee invites you to the 2009 GEOFLUIDS VI conference hosted by the University of Adelaide.

Every scientist has a different view about the meaning of "Geofluids". But all agree that today Geofluids are an essential aspect of our view of Geophysical, Geochemical and Geological processes and not only on this planet. Our present understanding of the dynamic concepts of Earth's processes from the surface to the core is based on the recognition of the importance of fluid phases in these processes.

At GEOFLUIDS VI in Adelaide we will bring together the representatives of Geofluid research and we hope that we can continue the unique strength of the GEOFLUIDS venue: to unite the theory and application of fluids in geosciences.

Adelaide is the capital of the driest state on the driest inhabited continent. We are looking forward to welcoming the world's leading experts on GEOFLUIDS in 2009!

Coordinator

Scientific Program and Themes

The conference consists of a three day meeting with oral and poster presentations each day. Oral presentations will be organised by theme and, if possible, the conference will be conducted as a single session venue with no parallel sessions. Poster presentations will be scheduled at specific times, preceded by brief “one slide-two minutes” poster presentations.

We are presently in the process of detailing the themes to be addressed at this conference which will include:

  • Mineralising Fluid Systems, hydrothermal processes and ore genesis
  • Hydrocarbon Systems: generation, migration and entrapment of hydrocarbons
  • CO2 Sequestration
  • Crustal and Mantle fluids in geotectonic processes
  • Experimental Geochemistry and its Modelling
  • Analytical Methods in Geofluids Research
  • Hydrodynamics and Geophysics in Fluid Research
  • Groundwater systems and their interaction

Note: We see these themes as the core program and are strongly encouraging submission of abstracts in the field of geofluids that are outside this scope.

Venue

Adelaide is the capital of South Australia, it shares borders with all other mainland states and territories and is bound by the Southern Ocean to the South. In April the climate in Adelaide is mild with temperatures around 20 to 25°C and cool nights. The campus of the University of Adelaide is located right in the city and close to hotels, restaurants and other facilities.

The conference venue is the "National Wine Centre of Australia" only a few minutes walk from the university campus and the city. To find out more about Adelaide and South Australia, there is a wealth of information available from websites such as: http://www.southaustralia.com

Travel

Adelaide has an international airport with direct flights from all major Australian cities as well as direct connections through Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong. The airport is close to the city (10 minutes taxi drive) and is connected to the national railway system.

While in Adelaide

It's true they say "G'day" here and love their country, especially the part out back! So while you're here don't miss the opportunity of seeing some of this country's highlights:

  • Its vineyards in the Barossa valley
  • the amazing beauty of the outback "past the black stump"
  • its beautiful beaches and coastline (great fishing!)
  • the great sports venues of "Australian rules football", Rugby, Cricket and Football (that's "soccer") and of course not to forget the spectacular surfing.
  • and most of all it's friendly people
