Dr Williams is a Monash University PhD graduate of the Department of Civil Engineering (1980). His PhD led to notable work on understanding the mechanics of rock socketed piles and developing design methods integrated with construction processes. This work was directly used in the extensive foundations of the West Gate Bridge construction. This early PhD led to an array of PhDs on “soft rock technology” at Monash University earning it an enviable world reputation in this area. Dr Williams is an outstanding engineer who has contributed extensively to the field of geomechanics over many years and has achieved a worldwide reputation in his specialised field. He has undertaken major management roles in various companies. He was the Chief of CSIRO, Division of Petroleum Resources (1994 - 2002), then the Chief of CSIRO, Division of Energy Technology (2004) before re-establishing and heading Geodynamics in 2006, a leading company dealing in geothermal energy.

Mr Terry Kallis, Managing Director, Petratherm »

Mr Kallis has more than 25 years experience in the Australian energy sector, primarily focused in South Australia. Terry holds degrees in Electrical Engineering an a Masters in Business Administration. He was formerly Chief Financial Officer of ETSA Corporation andlatterly as Executive Manager Network managing the transmission ssets f ElectraNetA. During his time at ETSA, he was intimately involved with all the major reforms implemented in the late 1990s. Those reforms included commercialsation, corporatisation, involvement in th designof the Nationl Electricity Market (NEM) and the ETSA sale. After leaving ETSA Terry managed a number of major asignments as a consultant including the acquisition of ElectraNet SA by Powerlink Queensland, the 220 MW, 180 km, underground Murraylink Interconnector for TransEnergie Australia, South Australia's first wind farm the Starfish Hill Wind Farm Project (34.5 MW) and the Mt Millar Wind Farm Project (70 MW) for Tarong Energy. Terry is Chairman of the Australian Geothermal Energy Association (AGEA) and is also AGEA’s representative to the AEMC’s Stakeholder Committee Review of Australia’s Energy Market (in light of Climate Change policies and the renewable energy target). Recently, Terry was appointed to the board of the Clean Energy Innovation Centre and he was made a memberf the Council of the South Australian Chamber of Mines and Energy to represent geothermal and renewables. Mr Kallis has also been appointed to the Centre for Energy Technology Advisory Board at Adelaide University, chaired by former South Australianmier John Olsen, to address greenhouse gas mitigation.

Mr Roger Massey-Greene, Chairman, Eureka Capital Partners »

Roger Massey-Green is chairman of Eureka Capital Partners, a private company focused on financing and development in the minerals and energy sectors. He co-founded Excel Coal Ltd, owner of Helensburgh's Metropolitan Colliery, in 2002 and was company chairman until its sale in 2006. Mr Massey-Greene founded and served as managing director of Excel's predecessor, Resource Finance Corporation, from 1984 to 2002. He previously worked for Bank of America in Australia and the United States in project and corporate finance, and as an underground mining engineer with Rio Tinto Ltd. In 2007, he co-founded Eureka Benevolent Foundation, a private philanthropic institution. He is the foundation's chairman. Mr Massy-Greene is also a member of the Salvation Army's Sydney Red Shield Appeal committee.

Dr Bob Johnson, Chairman, Geothermal Resources »

Dr Bob Johnson, a geologist, is one of the world’s leading practitioners of the application of computers to geological modelling and mine planning. He is Executive Chairman of Havilah Resources NL, in which capacity he has been jointly responsible for the definition of the Kalkaroo and Mutooroo copper deposits in South Australia. His company, Maptek Pty Ltd, is a major supplier of technical mining software through a network of integrated offices across Australia, North and South America, Africa and Europe, marketing the interactive Maptek Vulcan mining system. This experience has provided a broad understanding of orebodies and of the role of 3D geometry in structural geology. Dr Johnson is a Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and a Member of the American Society of Mining Engineers. He is chairman of Curnamona Energy Limited, which was successfully listed on ASX in April 2005.

Dr Barry Goldstein, Director of Petroleum & Geothermal, PIRSA »

Barry Goldstein has 27 years international experience in the energy sector. He holds Geology degrees from the University of New York and the University of Missouri. Barryy was Chief Geologist & Expation Manager with three companies in Australia: Santos (19966 – 2001), Bridge Oil Ltd (1987 – 1995), and the Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Company (1982 - 1986) after starting his career with Phillips Petroleum (1976 – 1981) in the USA amd Europe. He is Australia’s Executive Committee Representative to the International Energy Agency’s Geothermal Research Cluster (under the Geothermal Implementing Agreement). Barry is also a past President of the Petroleum Exploration Society of Australia (PESA) and is a Board Member of the Australian Geoscience Council (since 2004); the Federation of Australian Scientific and Technologic Societies (since 2004) and the Australian School of Petroleum (since 2002). He is a member of the AAPG’s House of Delegates and International Lecturer Committee. Barry has published papers in the APPEA Journal, the proceedings of PESA’s Basin Symposium, the Oil & Gas Journal, and The Log Analyst. He was a member of APPEA’s Exploration Committee (1998 - 2000).

Professor Peter Dowd, Dean of Engineering Computing and Mathematical Sciences, University of Adelaide »

Professor Peter Dowd has more than 30 years experience in academic research, teaching and administration and in consulting to industry. His research interests include geostatistical modelling and prediction in mineral resource, petroleum reservoir and environmental applications; geological modelling and mathematical geology; stochastic modelling and quantified risk assessment in natural resource and environmental applications; definitions and reporting of ore reserves; mineral economics; financial analysis and modelling; operational research; and co mine design. The context of much of this work has been the modelling and estimation of orebodies, coal deposits and hydrocarbon reservoirs; the generation of threeâ€Âdimensional orebody models as the basis for optimal mine design and scheduling; establishing resources and reserves together with associated confidence limits; the design of blasting and loading operations to optimise mineral extraction; and the quantification of geological and technical risk associated with resource extraction. More recently his work has focussed on the characterisation of rock masses for environmental risk analysis and assessment and for mining applications. Professor Dowd’s contributions to the development and application of geostatistics were recognised by the Royal Academy of Engineering in 1998 when he was elected to Fellowship of the Academy. The citation particularly noted his “distinguished international contributions” to the application of geostatistics in mine planning and design. In 2006 he was elected Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering in recognition of his contributions to geostatistics and for leadership in engineering education.

He has consulted extensively in geostatistics and mineral economics to the mining industry in Africa, Australasia, Europe, North America and South America and the petroleum industry in the UK and Saudi Arabia. Consultancies include ore reserve estimation, reporting of reserves, mine planning, geological modelling, feasibility studies, valuation, input to the development of mining codes and assessment of the micro and macro economic effects of mining taxation systems. These consultancies have included evaluations of many of the world’s major orebodies and mineral deposits, particularly in Australasia, Europe and the Americas. He has published over 180 papers and parts of books in the fields of geostatistics, stochastic modelling and spatial statistics, operational research, computer aided mine design, mine finance and valuation and has developed commercialised software products for the minerals industry.
