Background and objectives

Asia food in transition

The transition in food demand and agricultural production in China is accelerating with significant implications for the rest of the world, but especially for Asia.

A set of key issues associated with food security are of great significance in the Australian relationship with China, and research on the design and implementation of policy to best achieve food security in both countries is urgently required. A Group Mission was established and the focus of the Group Mission to scope and develop the priority issues and build relationships, needed to undertake pressing research in this area.

Project activities

The Group Mission successfully identified a range of critical challenges and impacts facing China, and connected the need to understand and inform debate regarding how China's responses to these will affect Australia, the region (including developing countries) and global markets.
