Postgraduate Research Induction - Semester 1, 2008

The Adelaide Graduate Centre’s next Induction Program will be held on Thursday, 28 February 2008. The Induction, which is compulsory for all commencing PhD and Masters by Research students, provides a valuable orientation to life as a research student at The University of Adelaide.

Research Students Needed

I am seeking two senior research students from each Faculty to participate in panel discussion sessions at the upcoming Postgraduate Research Induction on Thursday, 28 February 2008 (from approximately 11:25am to 1:00pm). Panels will be Faculty based, with each comprising a senior and experienced supervisor, a staff member from the Adelaide Graduate Centre, a subject librarian and two research students from the relevant Faculty. It is expected that each panel member will talk for about 10 minutes on their area of expertise with a general discussion and question and answer session to follow.

The student talks always receive very positive feedback from Induction participants and are considered one of the most valuable parts of the Induction Program. This is a great opportunity for you to provide your fellow students with a few tips and tricks to navigate their way through their research degree.

Leave of Absence

Please note that the Return from Leave of absence is required on the day you physically return to active candidature from your period of leave of absence. This form can not be future dated and as such does may not serve as an extension of your current leave. Should you require further leave, and are still within your entitlement (365 days total), please fill out a new leave of absence from available from: http://www.adelaide.edu.au/graduatecentre/forms/loa_studyleave.pdf

If you are no longer in your entitlement please attach a supporting statement from your head of school or Discipline.

Annual Leave Entitlements

Please note that all students are entitled to 4 weeks Annual Recreational Leave each year. Please negotiate this leave with the relevant school/discipline, no form is required. If students do require Leave beyond the 4 weeks, then a Leave of Absence form for the excess time should be lodged with the Graduate Centre.

Updating Student Cards at Waite Campus

All Waite campus students wishing to update their student cards for 2008 will find Student Services located underneath the Lira Lira Cafe (lower ground of McLeod House)
