Postgraduate Research Induction for Commencing Postgraduate Research Students
Induction Programs are organised by the Adelaide Graduate Centre for commencing PhD and Masters by Research students. These compulsory programs provide a valuable orientation to life as a research student at The University of Adelaide. The 2009 dates are:
Friday, 20 February
Thursday, 26 March
Friday, 24 July
All programs run from 8:50am to 1.00pm.

Supervisors and Students Needed
Supervisors and Senior Research Students are needed to participate in panel discussion sessions (11.45am-1pm) at the Postgraduate Research Induction on the following dates:

Thursday, 26 March 2009
The Induction Program is a positive introduction to students new to postgraduate study and the program relies on the involvement of volunteers to help make it a success.
One Supervisor from each of the following Faculty groups is needed (some groups have already been filled):
- Health Sciences (including Dentistry and Medicine) - 20 February Induction
- Sciences A (School of Agriculture, Food and Wine AND School of Earth and Environmental Sciences)- 26 March Induction
Two Senior (2nd or 3rd year) Postgraduate Research Students from each of the following Faculty groups are needed:
- Health Sciences (including Dentistry and Medicine)
- Humanities and Social Sciences AND The Professions
- Sciences A (School of Agriculture, Food and Wine AND School of Earth and Environmental Sciences)
- Sciences B , (School of Chemistry and Physics AND School of Molecular and Biomedical Sciences)
- Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences – 26 March Induction
Panel members present a talk on their area of expertise to new Postgraduate Research Students, concluding with a general discussion, question and answer session.
SUPERVISOR (20 minute) talks can include, for example:
Core Component; Major Review; Meetings with Supervisors (panel supervision,
conflicting advice, notes of meetings); Problems with supervisors; Role of PGC
(raising of issues); Resource entitlements; Forms; Publications; Ethics (as
appropriate to the Faculty); IP, Commercialisation (as appropriate to the Faculty);
Stats (as appropriate to the Faculty); Graduate Centre web site.
STUDENT (10 minute) talks can include, for example:
How to tackle the Core Component of the Structured Program; How to make the
most of your supervisory relationship(s); Who can help if there are problems;
Professional development opportunities; Time management; Publication writing;
Managing the ups and downs of research student life.

2009 Order of Merit List
The 2009 Order of Merit List is available from the Adelaide Graduate Centre (AGC) scholarships website, under the section 'Staff Information'. The list contains all eligible 2009 Major Round scholarship applicants, and scholarship offers and responses, and is updated on a regular basis. It is a confidential document for staff use and is not for wider distribution. Access is restricted to Postgraduate Coordinators.
Staff may wish to use the list to identify recipients for grant funded scholarship opportunities they may have available.
If you are a staff member wishing to establish a living allowance research scholarship (fortnightly stipend), from a grant or other external funding, please see the section marked 'Set up New Postgraduate Scholarships' on the AGC scholarships website.

Copies of Forms
On occasions forms may go missing or require clarification so students are requested to keep copies of their forms (including Leave forms, Core Component, Major Review and Annual Review). Unfortunately due to time and cost constraints the Graduate Centre is unable to photocopy forms for students.
