Postgraduate Research Induction for Commencing Postgraduate Research StudentsInduction Programs are organised by the Adelaide Graduate Centre for commencing PhD and Masters by Research students. These compulsory programs provide a valuable orientation to life as a research student at The University of Adelaide. The upcoming dates for 2009 are: All programs run from 8:50am to 1.00pm. New link for Postgraduate Coordinators and SupervisorsThere is a new link created for 'Postgraduate Coordinator and Supervisor Information' located in the left hand side navigation menu within the Adelaide Graduate Centre’s website. This link will take you to the page that contains information for Postgraduate Coordinator and Supervisors aswell as Research Postgraduates. You may also be aware that the pathway from the University’s homepage to the Adelaide Graduate Centre site has changed. To access the Adelaide Graduate Centre information from the University's homepage go to "Postgraduate Students" then click on the link to "Adelaide Graduate Centre" within the Postgraduate Research Programs Section.

Research Education needs at a Faculty, School and individual levelThe Researcher Education and Development unit (RED) at the Adelaide Graduate Centre is in the process of consulting broadly with Faculties, Schools, supervisors and students regarding research education needs at a Faculty, School and individual level. Although formal feedback will be requested via questionnaires at a later date, any opinions regarding existing programs and suggestions regarding future programs would be highly appreciated. Contact:
Higher Degree by Research Supervisor Induction WorkshopIf you wish to be registered as an HIgher Degree by Research supervisor at the University of Adelaide, in either principal or co-supervisor capacity, you must attend an HDR Supervisor Induction Workshop. An induction workshop is held at the beginning of each semester. It provides an essential introduction to the policy, practice and strategic context of Higher Degree by Research supervision at the University. Dates, times, venues for 2009 are: Semester 1: Wednesday March 11th 1.00 - 3.30pm, Equinox Room, Union House Semester 2: Wednesday August 5th 1.00 - 3.30pm, venue to be advised How to register: Register through our online enrolment facility. Cocktails & Connections
Then this session is for you. Come along and get connected. This is a relatively informal event, with a series of activities designed to get like minded researchers talking to each other. It is aimed at researchers new to the university as well as established researchers looking to reinvigorate their networks. All welcome! But please Register if you wish to attend. Semester 1: Wednesday 11th March 4 - 6pm, Equinox Room, Union House Semester 2: Wednesday 5th August 4 - 6pm, venue to be advised This session functions as the workshop for the Settling In orientation module for the Future Research Leaders program, but is open to all members of the university's research community.
Future Research Leaders ProgramThe Future Research Leaders program has been developed collaboratively by the Go8 universities, and is delivered in full each semester for the benefit of the research community of the University of Adelaide. The program is aimed at current and aspiring research leaders, and seeks to build a range of skills and knowledge critical to successful research leadership and management. There are eight modules in the program, together with a researcher orientation module. Modules are undertaken by a combination of online study, independent research and a face-to-face workshop. Exploring Supervision ProgramThe Exploring Supervision program (formerly the Effective Supervision program) provides professional development for HDR supervisors. Each semester we present a series of three interactive workshops, together with a range of tools, techniques and resources, covering key topics in HDR supervision. Postgraduate Coordinators ForumOffered each semester the Postgraduate Coordinators Forum provides an opportunity for postgraduate coordinators across the University to meet with the Dean of Graduate Studies and AGC staff, to hear about new developments in policy and procedure, and to share experiences and address common challenges together. The next PGC Forum is on Tuesday March 17th, 3-5pm, in the Seminar Room of the Adelaide Graduate Centre. Come along and connect with your fellow postgraduate coordinators. Honours Coordinators ForumEach semester the Adelaide Graduate Centre holds a forum for Honours Coordinators. Led by the Dean of Graduate Studies, the forum is a valuable opportunity for Honours Coordinators to share their experiences and to address challenges together. 5th International Leaders SeriesThe 5th International Leaders Series will be launched during this year’s Australian Innovation Festival. The next luncheon focuses on CHILE: Mr Hugo Lavados, Chilean Minister for Economy and Innovation will be leading a business and trade delegation to Australia in late May 2009. Other invited speakers include Hon. Simon Crean, Federal Minister for Trade; Tim Harcourt, Chief Economist with Austrade; Marcelo Salas, Trade Commissioner of Chile; and Robin Batterham, Chief Technology Officer, RioTinto. Dates: Tuesday 26th May in Melbourne and Wednesday 27th May in Sydney Fee: $120 per person, corporate tables also available. Time: 12.00pm until
