2007 RESEARCH STUDENT HANDBOOK
The 2007 Research Student Handbook is now available on the web at: http://www.adelaide.edu.au/graduatecentre/forms/rs_handbook_2007.pdf
The content of the Handbook is intended to provide an introduction and a guide
to studying for a higher degree by research at the University of Adelaide. It
is hoped that supervisors, Postgraduate Co-ordinators and Heads of School will
also find it a useful resource.
The information detailed in the Handbook is applicable to all currently enrolled
research students. However, if any research students who enrolled prior to 2007
consider themselves disadvantaged by any of the policies, procedures or requirements
stipulated in the Handbook, they may apply to the Dean of Graduate Studies for
dispensation to be treated, as far as possible, in accordance with the policies,
procedures or requirements in place in their year of enrolment.
Hard copies of the publication will be forwarded to Postgraduate Co-ordinators
shortly for distribution to key staff with responsibility for academic matters
and interested research students.
If you would like a hard copy of the Research Student Handbook please put in
a request to your Postgraduate Co-ordinator. For your information, the current
list of Postgraduate Coordinators is available on the web at: http://www.adelaide.edu.au/graduatecentre/forms/pgcoordinators.pdf

Student Milestones
Student Milestones - Extensions
It is vital that students requiring an extension to the due date for any of
their milestones (ie, Core Component of the Structured Program, Major Review,
etc) apply in the appropriate way well in advance of the due date. Failure to
lodge the appropriate paperwork or to apply for an extension where necessary
before the due date will result in suspension of the candidature and payment
of any scholarship funds will cease.
How to Apply for a Milestone Extension
Have your supervisor contact the Graduate Centre via email to graduate.centre@adelaide.edu.au
outlining the reasons for the extension, giving an approximate time line for
submission and endorsing the request.

made?

When do I notify my Return from leave of absence?
On return from leave, it is important that you notify the Graduate

the Graduate Centre of the resumption of your candidature by completing and
lodging the form "Notification of return from leave of absence"
If you do not intend to return from leave on the date previously approved by
