Postgraduate Research Induction – Semester 2, 2007

The Adelaide Graduate Centre’s next Induction Program will be held on the morning of Friday, 20 July 2007, concluding with light refreshments for all involved. The Induction, which is compulsory for all commencing PhD and Masters by Research students, provides a valuable orientation to life as a research student at The University of Adelaide.

Research Tuesdays

The Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor James McWha, is delighted to invite you to the University’s new Research Tuesdays lecture series.

This monthly series of public lectures is designed to provide an opportunity for the University’s leading researchers to engage with business and community leaders about pressing issues of the day.

Venue and Time
Research Tuesdays will be held in the Napier Building (Lower Ground) on the North Terrace campus at 5.30pm, and will run for approximately one hour. Admission is free.

Effective Supervision Program 2007

Helping Research Students with their Writing Wed 23rd May 9.30am - 1.00pm, AGC Seminar Room, Level 13, 10 Pulteney St.

Please bring to the session one or two examples of research student writing that you are currently dealing with or that you have previously found problematic.

Effective Supervision Program - Semester 1 Research Presentations
The final session of the Effective Supervision Program for Semester 1 will be held on Wed June 13th, 9.30am - 1pm, in the AGC Seminar Room, Level 13, 10 Pulteney St.

At this session colleagues undertaking the full module of the Effective Supervision Program will present a series of 30 minute seminars on their research projects, exploring various aspects of researcher education and development within their areas of research and supervision practice.

Note to all Scholarship Holders

Due to the relocation of the Human Resources Division, a change is made to the submission day for forms relating to changes to candidature ie leave of absence, termination of scholarship, withdrawal applications, change in attendance status etc. All forms with changes affecting the coming fortnight, must be submitted to the Adelaide Graduate Centre on the Friday (pay day) of the preceding fortnight. Endeavour Awards:

Applications for DEST's 2008 Endeavour Awards have opened, with a closing date of 31 July. The awards fund Australian undergraduate and postgraduate students to study for a period overseas, and overseas applicants to spend some time studying in Australia. The awards include student exchanges, research fellowships and executive awards. The University is keen to receive a sizeable number of these awards, so academic staff should encourage students to apply. Commonly Asked Questions

Do I have to attend a Induction Program?
The answer is, "Yes, you do". Attendance at a Graduate Centre induction program is a prerequisite for the confirmation of candidature (twelve months or half time equivalent from commencement) and under normal circumstances, all commencing higher degree by research students (including remote students) are expected to attend the first available induction program following enrolment.

Do I need to lodge a Return from Leave of Absence form if I have been on study leave?
The answer is “No”. There is no need to lodge a Return from Leave of Absence form if you have been on Study Leave.
