Postgraduate Research Induction - Semester 2, 2007

Research Students Needed

I am seeking two senior research students from each Faculty to participate in panel discussion sessions at the upcoming Postgraduate Research Induction on Friday, 20 July 2007 (11:25am to 1:00pm - with light refreshments to follow). Panels will be Faculty based, with each comprising a senior and experienced supervisor, a staff member from the Adelaide Graduate Centre, a subject librarian and two research students from the relevant Faculty. It is expected that each panel member will talk for about 10 minutes on their area of expertise with a general discussion and question and answer session to follow.

The student talks always receive very positive feedback from Induction participants and are considered one of the most valuable parts of the Induction Program. This is a great opportunity for you to provide your fellow students with a few tips and tricks to navigate their way through their research degree.

If you are interested in participating and would like further information about what's involved, please contact Lisa Hurcombe on 8303 3882 or email lisa.hurcombe@adelaide.edu.au by 29 June 2007.

The Adelaide Graduate Centre's next Induction Program will be held on the morning of Friday, 20 July 2007, concluding with light refreshments for all involved. The Induction, which is compulsory for all commencing PhD and Masters by Research students, provides a valuable orientation to life as a research student at The University of Adelaide.

For further information and to confirm your attendance for the Induction, please register online, by 13 July 2007 at: http://www.adelaide.edu.au/graduatecentre/induction/index.html

Invitation to participate in a Survey for Women Researchers

As a woman enrolled in a PhD or other higher research degree, you are invited to take part in a study investigating women's perceptions of doing research at The University of Adelaide, with a particular focus on potential barriers to research success and productivity.

We hope you can find 10-20 minutes to complete our online survey containing a number of questions exploring your experiences at The University of Adelaide. This information will help us to contribute to understanding of the structures, attitudes and discourses that enhance or act as impediments to women's research, and will help to inform future policy and planning by the University.

Completing the survey will not identify you in any way. The data collected will be stored securely in the School of Psychology, and will be accessible only to the investigating team.

This study has been approved by the School of Psychology's Human Research Ethics Subcommittee.

Please click on the link to begin the survey http://www.psychology.adelaide.edu.au/women/

Contact Honours Psychology student, Melissa Purcell, for more information: melissa.purcell@student.adelaide.edu.au

Thank you for your interest in this study.

The University is keen to receive a sizeable number of these awards, so academic staff should encourage students to apply.
