Change To Core Component Of The Structured Program (CCSP)

Please note that there is now an additional minimum requirement in the Core Component of the Structured Program.

Students must now complete the "Higher Degree by Research: Safety Management Plan" and, if applicable, the "Hazard Management Log" and attach copy(ies) to the CCSP documentation lodged with the Graduate Centre.

If you have any queries regarding the forms, please contact your School/Area Health & Safety Officer (HSO).

The minimum requirements of the Core Component are now:

  • participation in a School Induction
  • completion of the Minimum Resources Proforma
  • regular attendance of the School Seminar Program
  • the completion of a research proposal and (normally) its presentation at a School seminar/workshop
  • completion of the "Higher Degree by Research: Safety Management Plan" and, if applicable, the "Hazard Management Log"
  • and, for international students (who have not been granted an exemption), participation in the Integrated Bridging Program (IBP)

Postgraduate Research Induction – 24 July 2009

The Adelaide Graduate Centre’s next Induction Program will be held on Friday, 24 July 2009.  The Induction, which is compulsory for all commencing PhD and Masters by Research students, provides a valuable orientation to life as a research student at The University of Adelaide.

The Beginning and the End

The Graduate Centre would like to remind students that at the time of submission of your thesis for examination, you are also required to lodge a “Certification of Thesis for Examination” form completed by your School and, if enrolled in Sciences, Health Sciences or Engineering, an electronic copy on disk. A copy of the certification of thesis for examination form is posted to you on receipt of your “Notification of Intention to Submit”. If required, the form may also be downloaded from the web at: http://www.adelaide.edu.au/graduatecentre/policy/#T

The Graduate Centre will NOT accept theses for submission unless accompanied by this form.

When an outcome has been achieved and you are returning your three final amended hard-bound thesis copies please remember that ALL students, irrespective of Faculty, are required to provide an electronic copy of their thesis on disk for inclusion in the Australian Digital Thesis Program (ADTP). More information on the ADTP can be found in the 2009 Research Student Handbook.

A Word About The Declaration In Your Thesis

This statement is needed in all copies of the thesis. Each statement must be signed and dated by the student whose thesis it is, declaring the originality of the work, consent for the thesis to be made available to the university library and the situation with respect to copyright, where applicable. Specific wording can be found in the Specifications for Thesis – Rules 3.1 and 3.2

Departmental copies of letters

The Graduate Centre would like to advise that departmental copies of student letters are now being sent via email to reduce paper waste and speed up communications. Students will still receive hard copies of letters and documents.

The John Crampton Travelling Scholarship

The purpose of the Scholarship is to enable students of Architecture, Engineering, Fine Arts and/or Classical Antiquity to undertake study overseas in Italy, Germany, Spain, or Greece or any other country considered appropriate by the Scholarship trustee, Executor Trustee Australia Limited ('Executor Trustee').

HDR Supervisor Induction Workshop

If you wish to be registered as an HDR supervisor at the University of Adelaide, in either principal or co-supervisor capacity, you MUST attend an HDR Supervisor Induction Workshop. The induction workshop provides an essential introduction to the policy, practice and strategic context of HDR supervision at the University.

Want to meet some new fellow researchers? Want to get some new ideas for research collaborations? Want to hear from some of the University's research leaders? Then this session is for you. Come along and get connected.

Wednesday 5th August 4 - 6pm, The Vines, National Wine Centre of Australia, following the HDR Supervisor Induction workshop.

This is a relatively informal event, with a series of activities designed to get like minded researchers talking to each other. It is aimed at researchers new to the university as well as established researchers looking to reinvigorate their networks. All researchers welcome!

Future Research Leaders Program

The Future Research Leaders program has been developed collaboratively by the Go8 universities, and is delivered in full each semester for the benefit of the research community of the University of Adelaide. The program is aimed at current and aspiring research leaders, and seeks to build a range of skills and knowledge critical to successful research leadership and management.

There are eight modules in the program, together with a researcher orientation module. Modules are undertaken by a combination of online study, independent research and a face-to-face workshop. Do just one module, or do as many as you like. Its up to you. And its all free!

Exploring Supervision Program

The Exploring Supervision program (formerly the Effective Supervision program) provides professional development for HDR supervisors. Each semester we present a series of three interactive workshops, together with a range of tools, techniques and resources, covering key topics in HDR supervision. In addition, completion of the full module of the program leads to registration as a principal HDR supervisor.

Graduations in August 2009 – Last day to lodge amendments

In order to graduate in August 2009 (provided that you have applied to graduate and have received an "outcome of thesis examination" letter) the Graduate Centre requires three hard-bound and one electronic copies of your suitably-amended thesis, together with the completed "Confirmation of Amendments and ADTP" by close of business on this Wednesday 15th July 2009.
