Submission of a PhD in Publication Format: New Rules
Following approval from the Research Education and Development Committee, from 2009, it will be possible for the same research publication to be submitted as part of two research student theses provided that the appropriate detailed descriptors of each individual's contribution to the paper (both materially and in terms of IP) is provided in the Statement of Authorship. Examples of the required Statement of Authorship
Accordingly, the 2009 academic program rules and thesis declaration for a thesis that contains publications (3.2 of the Specifications for Thesis document) have been amended as follows:
8.4 PhD rules/8.3 Professional Doctorate rules/8.4 General Masters by Research rules
Irrespective of the nature of the thesis, its content, in part or in total, must not have been accepted for any other degree in the name of the candidate at the University of Adelaide or other academic institution. Candidates should consult the appropriate recommended declarations and the University’s Specifications for Thesis.
Specifications for Thesis: From 2009, Thesis Declarations should be as follows:
3.1 For a thesis that does not contain work already in the public domain
This work contains no material which has been accepted for the award of any other degree or diploma in any university or other tertiary institution to <name of student> and, to the best of my knowledge and belief, contains no material previously published or written by another person, except where due reference has been made in the text.I give consent to this copy of my thesis, when deposited in the University Library, being made available for loan and photocopying, subject to the provisions of the Copyright Act 1968.
3.2 For a thesis that contains publications

Effective Supervision Program, Semester 2
Semester 2 registrations for the Effective Supervision Program
are now open. The program is offered every semester, providing a series of five
interactive workshops, together with a range of tools, techniques and resources,
covering key topics in HDR supervision. The workshops are structured to enable
academic staff to work through issues and to share their expertise. The program
also offers a pathway to principal supervisor accreditation.

HDR Supervisor Induction Workshop, Tuesday 12th August
All new academic staff wishing to supervise research higher degree students are required to attend the HDR Supervisor Induction Workshop. Led by the PVC Research Operations, this workshop provides an overview of the policy, practice and strategic context of HDR supervision at the University. NEW academic staff are generally not able to undertake HDR supervision, as either principal or co-supervisors, unless they attend this workshop.The The Supervisor Induction Workshop for Semester 2 is to be held on the afternoon of Tuesday 12th August, and constitutes the first session of the Effective Supervision Program. All academic staff are welcome, but please register first:.

Future Research Leaders Program Semester 2
Semester 2 registrations for the Future Research Leaders Program are now open. The Future Research Leaders Program is essential professional development for all career researchers looking to advance their research leadership, management and grant winning skills. The program consists of eight separate modules, together with an orientation session, all conducted through a combination of online study and face to face workshops.
You can do the modules in any order. And because the program is repeated every semester you can work through the modules at your own pace.

Rhodes Scholarship for 2009
Applications for the South Australian Rhodes Scholarships for 2009 are now open. The successful applicant(s) will take up their position at Oxford in or around September 2009.
Professor Russell, the Honorary Secretary in South Australia, will be away from his office from 11 August onwards. Interested students wishing to ask questions or otherwise discuss their application are invited to contact Professor Richard Russell prior to this date. Applicants are also reminded that the northern hemisphere university Long Vacation has already begun so contacting academics at Oxford may prove difficult.
Application forms may be obtained from Ms Pamela Cook. The application form is not available electronically.
The closing date for this scholarship round is 5.00pm Monday 1 September 2008.
