2007 Annual Review of Progress

With the exception of students who commence in August, September or October this year, all research students, including those currently on leave of absence, are required to complete the 2007 Annual Review of Progress. Shortly the Graduate Centre will be sending out Annual Review packages to students’ mailing addresses (or home address where no mailing address has been specified). To ensure that you receive the Annual Review package, please check that your mailing address details are current. You can view and, if necessary, update your address details by logging on to Access Adelaide at: https://access.adelaide.edu.au/sa/login.asp

If you have not received a Review package by 31 August, please contact the Graduate Centre so that another package can be forwarded to you.

Please note it is your responsibility to ensure that your Annual Review is submitted to the Graduate Centre by the due date of 31 October. You should make an appointment with your supervisor(s) to discuss your progress by mid September and another with your Postgraduate Coordinator, or Head of School/Discipline (which your supervisor(s) may wish to attend) for a few days later. After your supervisor(s) and Postgraduate Coordinator or Head of School/Discipline have discussed your progress with you and all parties have completed the relevant sections of the form, you should sign the form and lodge it with the Graduate Centre.

Ethnographic Research Methods Course

This course aims to provide theoretical and practical training to higher degree research students and researchers wishing to use ethnographic and/or qualitative research methods. Ethnographic research is becoming more widely used in a range of disciplines, including anthropology, sociology, psychology and public health. We will discuss and provide instruction about how such methods are used in applied contexts. Participants will gain practical skills, including: using qualitative methods in conjunction with other research methods and study designs, ensuring rigour and validity, developing quantifiable outcomes (a concern for some clinical and other research), and conducting rapid assessments.

The course is aimed at students and researchers who are in the early stages (who have either recently or not yet begun to collect data), but it is suitable for participants at all stages of the research process. Places are strictly limited and the course will be tailored to meet the specific needs of participants. In registering, applicants are asked to provide a brief overview of their current or intended research; practical exercises will then be designed to facilitate development of their research interests and design.

More details about the course are on this flyer
