2009 Annual Review of Progress
With the exception of students who commence in August, September or October this year, all research students, including those currently on leave of absence, are required to complete the 2009 Annual Review of Progress.
The Annual Review packages are available on the web for download. The Annual Review form is available in pdf format (for printing and completing by hand) and also as an editable Word document (which can be downloaded and completed electronically). If for any reason you are unable to print or download the documents please email Kim Crawford or phone 8303 6091 to request that a printed package be posted to you.
Please note it is your responsibility to ensure that your Annual Review is submitted to the Graduate Centre by the due date of 31 October (or the following working day as this day falls on a weekend in 2009). You should make an appointment with your supervisor(s) to discuss your progress by mid September and another with your Postgraduate Coordinator, or Head of School/Discipline (which your supervisor(s) may wish to attend) for a few days later. After your supervisor(s) and Postgraduate Coordinator or Head of School/Discipline have discussed your progress with you and all parties have completed the relevant sections of the form, you should sign the form and lodge it with the Graduate Centre.
Postgraduate Scholarship and Admission
Scholarship and Admission application forms for 2010 are now available. They can be accessed via the Graduate Centre website A to Z Policy and Forms page.
The minimum qualification for a scholarship in most disciplines at the University if Adelaide is Honours 2A.
Closing date: 31st October 2009.
Extension for reviews
Students are reminded that if they require an extension of the deadline for the Core Component of the Structured Program or Major Review, their Principal Supervisor, Postgraduate Coordinator or Head of School must forward a request to the Graduate Centre via email before the due date.
Failure to lodge the necessary documentation by the due date will result in a suspension of candidature. Scholarship payments for a scholarship holder will stop with effect from the date of suspension. Any scholarship payments received during the period of suspension will be recovered. Suspension means that students are not eligible to have access to University facilities, including laboratories, libraries and insurance; and may not submit a thesis for examination.
The suspension can be lifted only if the completed documentation is lodged with the Graduate Centre within twelve months of the suspension date.
A candidature which has been suspended for twelve months is automatically terminated.

Exploring Supervision #3
Helping research students with their writing
Wednesday 16th September 1.00 - 4.30pm
AGC Seminar Room,
Level 6, 115 Grenfell St
This workshop addresses one of the most common challenges faced by HDR supervisors: 'How do I best help my student develop as an academic writer and research communicator?'.
We will examine what the research says about this issue, and we will seek to apply the findings to examples of student writing. The needs of both native and non-native writers of academic English will be considered, and supervisors are encouraged to bring along typical or problematic examples of student writing for the workshop to assist with.
