Christmas Message from the Dean
Dear Colleagues
I guess we should believe in Santa, or at least his/her presents. Our Christmas present was 41 additional Australian Postgraduate Award Scholarships which the AGC managed to have offered within two hours of the government announcement of our extended allocation.
Overall this was just part of the good news for the end of the year. After a great deal of hard work the University managed to reach its desired target of 300 completions which is the first time this has happened for quite a few years.
Next year we will see the impact of the Service Excellence Project which is reviewing the whole HDR cycle from enquiry to completion. It is a major project which is already producing some fascinating outcomes.
May I take this opportunity to thank all the Postgrad Coordinators and Associate Deans (Research) for a remarkable year’s effort in and around the HDR area.
Have a great Christmas and New Year, with a well earned rest.
Richard Russell
Dean of Graduate Studies

Major Round Scholarships for 2009
The Australian Government allocated a higher number of Australian Postgraduate Awards (APAs), this year and 2009 offers have been sent to the awardees. Faculty Divisional scholarships are being allocated and offers will continue into the New Year.
Students must accept their scholarship within two weeks of offer, and commence the Higher Degree by Research candidature by 31 March 2009.
Other scholarship opportunities
Various opportunities become available throughout the year for both major and supplementary scholarships for Higher Degree by Research candidates. All scholarships of which we are notified will be published on the new ACG scholarships website.
We encourage students to review the available scholarships on a regular basis, and for staff to notify us of any opportunities they may wish to advertise.
Recent improvements to the website include a new entry page for improved navigation and summary tables of information including opening and closing dates, so students may plan ahead for applications.
New opportunities are constantly being added to the website: http://www.adelaide.edu.au/graduatecentre/scholarships/postgrad/
2009 Order of Merit List
The 2009 Order of Merit List is available from the Adelaide Graduate Centre (AGC) scholarships website, under the section 'Staff Information'. The list contains all eligible 2009 Major Round scholarship applicants, and scholarship offers and responses, and is updated on a regular basis. It is a confidential document for staff use and is not for wider distribution. Access is restricted to Postgraduate Coordinators.
Staff may wish to use the list to identify recipients for grant funded scholarship opportunities they may have available.
If you are a staff member wishing to establish a living allowance research scholarship (fortnightly stipend), from a grant or other external funding, please see the section marked 'Set up New Postgraduate Scholarships' on the AGC scholarships website.
