Christmas Message from the Dean

2009 has been a busy year for the Graduate Centre with the usual range of high points and low points. 

In the former group it is pleasing to note the tremendous success of the e-collect thesis program which is now University wide.  Following on from the University-wide review of Masters programs the new Master of Philosophy (MPhil No Honours) is up and running for 2010 and has attracted a good field of 50 candidates for the ten available scholarships.  The review of HDR admission, candidature and enrolment has been completed and already a number of the suggested changes to processes have been introduced.  Foremost amongst these will be the significant change to the Major Review of Candidature which will be introduced from the start of next year.  This will ensure that best practice is employed by all schools and disciplines.

The great disappointment for 2009 is the drop in completions.  Following last year’s success in meeting targets it is regrettable that we will fall short for this year, a fact reflected in the distribution of 2010 divisional scholarship to Faculties.  This will, at some stage in the future, impact on our RTS funding and APA allocations, the latter being particularly unfortunate after last year’s additional allocation.

However, to end on a bright note, domestic PhD applications have finally bucked the trend and show a healthy increase with 303 being processed, an increase of 45 from 2008.

It now just remains for me to thank all the staff at the AGC, and all the Faculty PGC’s, for their efforts this year.

Closing for Christmas

The Adelaide Graduate Centre will be closed for business from 12.30 pm on Thursday, 24th December 2009 and will re-open for business at 9.00 am on Monday, 4th January 2009.

Any e-mails and telephone messages left during this time will be attended to as soon as possible after the Centre re-opens.

Postgraduate Exit Survey

The Postgraduate Exit Survey has been taken offline for maintenance. It will be available again from 4 January 2010.

Any student planning to submit a thesis for examination before Christmas should still do so. In this case you will be required to complete the Exit Survey prior to receiving notification of the outcome of your examination.

Students planning to submit a thesis from 4 January 2010 onwards will still need to complete the Exit Survey before the thesis is accepted for examination.
