Christmas Message from the Dean
I started my message last year with the words “Well Christmas is nearly upon us once again and no doubt many of you are wondering where the year has gone” The same seems to apply to 2007 except of course we had the RQF and time has flown even faster.
I would once again like to thank all the staff of the Adelaide Graduate Centre for being so supportive of change. Anne Witt as manager of the AGC and Diana Hill as her deputy have played a pivotal role in helping design the new HDR student management system which will come on line in February next year. This will greatly enhance the work flow for postgraduate coordinators and will for the first time give supervisors real time data about their students
This year saw the introduction of our Supervisors Register and a new suit of training programs for supervisors. These workshops have proved especially popular and have generated a wide range of ideas for improving the experience of HDR candidates. Whilst on the subject of IT we also introduced the online exit survey which again will hopefully provide quicker feed back to faculties and the annual reports will be run early in January 2008
This year also saw the introduction of a range of new HDR scholarships targeted at overseas students as a lead into the University’s next strategic plan. So far these have attracted wide interest and will ensure growth in our HDR cohort for 2008.
Can I take this opportunity to wish you all a happy and restful Christmas and an exciting new year at least from a research perspective.
Richard A Russell AM
Dean of Graduate Studies
