Graduation

Degree Conferral

Once you have met the academic requirements of your award and discharged any outstanding financial obligations to the University, a conferral statement will be placed on your academic transcript at the first available opportunity after your qualification date.

Conferral statements will be entered three times per year: 9 March, 31 July, and 31 December.

For doctoral graduates, the presence of a conferral statement on your transcript bestows upon you the right to use the title of Doctor. Further information is available on the Graduations website at: www.adelaide.edu.au/student/graduations

Graduation Presentation Ceremonies

The university holds graduation ceremonies in April and September, and March/April (Offshore) each year. Most students will not need to apply to graduate as the Graduations Office run an automated process which identifies potential graduands based on their thesis submission date and creates applications in Access Adelaide for those students who satisfy the criteria.

Only those students who are not identified as part of the automated process will need to submit a manual application using Access Adelaide (available via the Unified Portal). Access Adelaide is also useful for checking your award details, choosing whether to graduate in person or in absentia, and if the latter, specifying how you wish to obtain your certificate e.g. (in person, by mail). As you will be ineligible to graduate if you have any outstanding obligations or debts with the University, it is important that you discharge all such obligations prior to the closing date of your nominated graduation ceremony.

At your Graduation Ceremony, Graduates will be presented in the order of their awards, with higher degrees such as PhDs and Masters awarded first, followed by Graduate Diplomas, Bachelor degrees etc. At an appropriate time, you will be signalled to stand and move to the correct position on or near the stage in preparation for your presentation to the Chancellor/Presider. When called, you will move forward to meet and shake hands with the Chancellor/Presider, before proceeding to the certificate table to receive your parchment and Australian Higher Education Graduation Statement (AHEGS). Generally the ceremony takes 1 hour. For larger ceremonies, or where special awards are being conferred, it may take up to 90 minutes. Guests, graduates and staff must remain in the Hall for the duration of the ceremony. For further information about graduation, including application, conferral, ceremony allocation, tickets and more please refer to the Graduations website: www.adelaide.edu.au/student/graduations

Australian Higher Education Graduation Statement (AHEGS) replacement and Re-Issue

All University of Adelaide students receive a complimentary copy of their AHEGS at graduation. Graduation statements will not be issued retrospectively. Additional copies of the AHEGS are available for purchase from the Student Centre. The application form is accessible at:

www.adelaide.edu.au/student/graduations/

Obtaining an Official Academic Transcript

updated

A copy or copies of your official academic transcript may be purchased on the spot from the University Contact Centre, provided that you don't owe the University any money, began studying here in 1985 or later and have with you a photo ID. Alternatively, if you are unable to visit the University Contact Centre in person, or you do not satisfy the criteria for the issuing of transcripts on the spot, you can lodge a 'Request for Academic Transcript' form accompanied by the appropriate fee. The application form, together with information about the current charge(s) for obtaining transcript copies, is available on request from the University Contact Centre in person or online.

You can view a copy of your transcript at any time by logging on to Access Adelaide.

Parchment Replacement and Re-Issue

If the parchment you are issued with on graduation is lost, missing, destroyed, stolen or damaged, you may apply for a replacement.

Similarly, if you have changed your name since graduation, you may apply to have your parchment re-issued under your current name, if desired. An administrative fee applies to each parchment replacement and re-issue. The higher fee for the latter service reflects the additional student record tracking, amendments and data matching procedures involved

If you wish to apply for parchment replacement or re-issue, please forward your written request to the Graduations Office, together with the applicable fee.

Further information is available on the graduations website at: www.adelaide.edu.au/student/graduations

The current fees for parchment replacement and re-issue are detailed in the ‘Student Services Fee’ schedule, which is available online at: www.adelaide.edu.au/student/finance/otherfees
