Postgraduate Research Supervisor Induction Workshop

If you wish to be registered as a supervisor of postgraduate research students at the University of Adelaide, in either principal or co-supervisor capacity, you must attend a Research Supervisor Induction Workshop.

The regular induction workshop is held at the beginning of each semester. Additional sessions are convened from time to time, subject to demand. The workshop provides an essential introduction to the policy, practice and strategic context of HDR (ie. higher degree by research) supervision at the University.

The next Postgraduate Coordinators Forum will be held early in Semester 1, 2010. Watch this space for time and venue details.

What will you do at the workshop?
You will consider the strategic context of research training at the University of Adelaide, and you will become familiar with the important milestones (together with the associated policies, practices and paperwork) of research degrees, and the obligations of supervisors ... Oh, and we'll also talk about the rewards of supervision, and the wonderful contribution it can make to your research career.

How will your attendance be recorded on the Supervisor Register?
To ensure that your attendance is recorded on the Register of Supervisors, we will require you to sign in to the workshop, and we will provide you with a certificate of attendance for your own records. For your attendance to be recorded on the Register, you must enrol in advance

What if you absolutely can't attend at the scheduled time?
If you absolutely are unable to attend the workshop, please contact us. From time to time we put on extra supervisor induction workshops to cater for people who miss out on the scheduled sessions. We may also be able to provide you with material that you can work through independently. We are currently preparing an online version of the workshop, which may become available later in 2009.
