Major Round

Each year the University of Adelaide has what is known as the Major Round of scholarship applications, for higher degree by research scholarships. The scholarships awarded in the Major Round are for commencement in the following year.

Applying in the Major Round is the most effective way to maximise the chances of obtaining a scholarship as students will be considered for every available scholarship for which they are eligible. Over 200 scholarships are offered as part of the Major Round each year. See the Research Scholarships page for information about scholarships included in the Major Round.

Major Round applications open 1 September and close 31 October.

Applicants must be Australian or New Zealand citizens or Permanent Residents of Australia by the closing date of 31 October.

Please note: some scholarships included in the Major Round require that you note the full scholarship name on your application under the section marked 'Other', in order to be considered. Where this is a requirement it will be listed under the individual scholarship description.

Please note: some scholarships require a separate application process (i.e. are not included in the Major Round of applications). Specific application requirements are listed under each scholarship description.

Major Round scholarships offers are sent out in a number of stages, following the selection process. The first round of offers will be sent by post in approximately mid-December of the year of application. Further offers will follow into the year of commencement.

Some scholarship applications require additional assessment by the relevant scholarship selection committees (e.g. where a scholarship is administered or authorised by an external funding body), and in this case offers may be produced later into the year of commencement.

All applicants will be advised of the outcome of their application, by post.

Some scholarships will also be available at various other times throughout the year and applicants are encouraged to visit the Research Scholarships page to see what is available at the time they are considering applying for admission.
