HUMSS - Full HDR Scholarships

Scholarships are available in the new ARC Centre of Excellence for the History of Emotions, working with Professor David Lemmings in the 'Change' program.

Value: Opportunities include:

  • Full scholarship to the value of $26,000 per annum; or
  • Supplementary scholarship to the value of $5,500 per annum.

Each scholarship offers the recipient a travel/accommodation allowance of up to $13,500 in order to conduct research in Europe.

The type and number of scholarship(s) will be determined in consideration of the available funding and the number of suitable applications.

Duration: Up to three years, with a possible six month extension.

Discipline/Research Topic: The topics for study should relate to emotions in Europe (including Britain), 1100-1800 and particularly to collective emotion and its influence on major socio-cultural, political and economic change.

Eligibility is not limited to candidates in the area of History. The research topic is broad and as such may be relevant to other research areas some examples of which include (but are not limited to) English literature, political theory, and sociology.

The E W Benham Research scholarship was made possible as a result of the generostiy of a bequest by Edward Warner Benham, a prominant lawyer, following the death of his widow Violet Margaret Benham.

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must be Australian Citizens or Permanent Residents commencing a full-time Doctor of Philosophy (PdD) or Masters by research program at the University of Adelaide. One scholarship shall be rewarded annually subject to availabile funding. Selection will be based on grounds of academic merit, research potential and financial disadvantage. The duration of the scholarship will be three years for research towards the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and two years for a Masters by research recipient subject to continued satisfactory progress. No extensions will be considered for Doctor Philosophy recipients
  • Field of Research: English Literature or English Political History.

Value: $27, 651pa (in 2011) tax free, indexed annually.

Discipline of Anthropology

Applications are invited for the following scholarship leading to the degree of PhD in Anthropology.

The scholarship is supported by CM Mountford Bequest.

Field of Study: Anthropology of Indigenous Peoples of Australia.

Eligibility: Applicants must be Australian Citizens or permanent residents of Australia who are acceptable as candidates for a PhD degree in Anthropology at the University of Adelaide.

Value: The scholarship will be for the period 4 years and has a stipend of $24,000 per annum. It is likely to be tax exempt, subject to Taxation Office approval.

Supplementary Scholarship

The South Australian Parliament Research Library Supplementary Scholarship has been established to encourage the study of politics and parliament in South Australia. The focus of research should be on the effective functioning of South Australia’s bicameral institution and/or its relationship with government.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to study in a collegial environment & in close proximity to the workings of parliament with access to parliamentary officers, proceedings, papers & the parliament's intranet services. A workstation will be provided in the Library including desk, telephone and computing facilities.

Value: $10,000 per annum as a top up to a major scholarship. Applicants must commence study towards a PhD or Masters by research in 2013 at one of South Australia's three major Universities.
