Child Care Fees
The Australian Taxation Office recently issued a Private Ruling confirming
that salary packaged child care fees for the University of Adelaide Child Care
Services Inc. (UACCS) at North Terrace and Waite campus centres would be Fringe
Benefits Tax exempt. A further Private Ruling in July 2002 also exempts salary
packaged child care fees at Roseworthy Campus Child Care Centre.
Following this ruling the University of Adelaide offers the opportunity to
eligible employees with children enrolled at these centres to salary package child
care fees provided they are eligible to participate under the 'General Conditions'
of the Voluntary Salary Packaging Scheme.
Employees with children at any other child care centre external to the University
may not participate in salary packaging child care fees.
Staff should be aware that salary packaging child care fees will affect Government
Child Care Benefits and should seek independent financial advice before entering
into such an arrangement.
Conditions
- Casual employees and employees with a fixed-term contract of less than 12
months are not eligible to participate in this scheme.
- Employees must have one or more children enrolled in one of the three specified
University child care centres.
- Employees must enter into a packaging arrangement for a minimum of 12 months
unless otherwise agreed by the General Manager, Human Resources.
- No more than 40% of fortnightly superannuable gross salary may be packaged
inclusive of all packaged items and charges unless otherwise approved by the General
Manager, Human Resources in special circumstances.
- The level of child care fees is a matter between the employee and the
Director of University of Adelaide Child Care Services Inc (UACCS) or the Director
of Roseworthy Campus Child Care Centre Inc (RCCCC).
- One-off adjustments to deductions must be arranged with the Directors of the
Child Care centres from after-tax monies and are not part of this scheme.
- Deductions will continue to be made whilst on paid absence. When going on
leave without pay and therefore not receiving salary payments, staff must contact
the Director of University of Adelaide Child Care Services Inc or the Director
of Roseworthy Campus Child Care Centre Inc for available options before leave
without pay commences.
- Salary Packaging arrangements must not be retrospective.
Enrolment
- Read the 'General Conditions' and the Conditions above.
- Download the Child Care Fees Salary Packaging Application Form (see below).
- Consult your financial adviser and Centrelink.
- Ensure the salary package total value for all packaged items is not more than
40% of superannuable gross salary.
- Complete and sign the Application Form.
- Forward the completed form to: Payroll Services, Human Resources, Level 13, 115 Grenfell Street, Adelaide SA 5005.
Administration Costs
- A charge of $130 per annum pre-tax ($5 per pay) inclusive of any
government taxes will be made to defray the costs of administration.
- In addition the University will charge an amount of $50 pre-tax to defray
costs for changes to packages within the 12 month package term.
