Superannuation
Staff members have the option to package their compulsory UniSuper member contribution.
They also have the option to make additional voluntary contributions as pre-tax
deductions from their gross salary.
Staff who are members of non-UniSuper schemes have the option to make voluntary
pre-tax contributions to the Award Plus Plan (formerly TESS).
To comply with government regulations, packaging arrangements may not be backdated.
The following specific options are available to eligible staff:
8.25% Member Contribution to UniSuper Defined Benefit Plan (DBP) or UniSuper Investment Choice Plan (ICP) (formerly SSAU)
Conditions
- Employee must be a member of UniSuper Defined Benefit Plan (DBP) or UniSuper
Investment Choice Plan (ICP) (formerly SSAU).
- Employee must enter into a packaging arrangement for a minimum of 12 months,
unless otherwise agreed by the General Manager, Human Resources.
- Deductions will continue to be made and benefits provided whilst on paid absence.
When on leave without pay and therefore not receiving salary, staff will need
to contact the Superannuation Officer on extension 35222 for available options
before leave without pay commences.
Enrolment
- Staff who are existing members of UniSuper should read the 'General Conditions' and may enrol by downloading the Superannuation Salary Packaging Application Form from the University's website.
- New staff who are not members of UniSuper but who are required to join should enrol by ticking the relevant box on the UniSuper Application Form which is included in the member's UniSuper booklet they receive on appointment.
- No administrative fee is charged by the University for administering superannuation salary packages but the University reserves the right to charge a fee of $50 pre-tax to defray costs for changes to packages within the 12 month term.
UniSuper Voluntary Contributions to Investment Choice Plan (ICP) (formerly SSAU)
Conditions
- Employee must be a member of UniSuper Defined Benefit Plan (DBP) or Investment
Choice Plan (ICP) (formerly SSAU).
- Staff are only eligible if they have an appointment contract of 12 months
or more unless otherwise agreed by the General Manager, Human Resources.
- Employee must enter into a packaging arrangement for a minimum of 12 months.
- Staff my increase/decrease the amount once each 12 months.

- UniSuper deducts 15% Contributions Tax and 2% Administrative Fee (up to a maximum of $100 in a financial year) from the pre-tax amount.
- No administrative cost is charged by the University for administering superannuation salary packages but the University reserves the right to charge an amount of $50 pre-tax to defray costs for changes to packages outside the 12 month term.

- Employee must enter into a packaging arrangement for a minimum of 12 months.
- Staff my increase/decrease the amount once each 12 months.

How do I apply to enter into a salary packaging arrangement for superannuation?
- Read the 'General Conditions' and the conditions above.
- Download the Superannuation Salary Packaging Application Form (see below).
- Consult your financial advisor.
- Ensure the salary package total value is not more than 40% of superannuable gross salary. Use the calculator to work this out.
- Complete and sign the Application Form (tick the correct boxes).
- Return the form to Payroll Services, Human Resources.
