Human Resources Team Responsibilities

Overview

The Human Resources Branch is located within the Division of Services and Resources and is made up of 58 full time equivalent (FTE) positions distributed across seven functional teams. Those teams with their primary functions are:

HR Directorate

  • strategic planning and management
  • executive and branch support.

Organisational Development and Strategy

Providing leadership to the University as a high quality employer through the provision of:

  • policy development
  • industrial and employee relations
  • equity and diversity planning, and
  • organisational learning and development.

HR Consulting

Working in partnership with managers and team leaders to maximise the capability of their staff through guidance in effective people management practices and advice on:

  • case management and the interpretation of the Enterprise Agreement, policies and procedures
  • effective conflict resolution
  • implementing probation, talent management, performance management, reward and recognition, succession planning, exit and mentoring processes
  • appropriate contract arrangements and flexible work options
  • position description classifications and reclassifications, and
  • change management initiatives.

Client Services

Providing efficient and accurate contract, payroll and superannuation administration to staff and managers through the Employee Services Team; and providing easy and efficient access to a range of HR support services through the HR Service Centre through the provision of:

  • employment contract administration
  • payroll processing and services
  • superannuation services
  • leave advice
  • titleholder appointments
  • separation and termination processes
  • advice relating to recognition of prior service
  • administration associated with probation and tenure review processes, and
  • brokering HR specialist services through the HR Service Centre.

Recruitment Services

Working with University managers to attract, select and recruit the right staff capable of delivering the research, teaching and professional service objectives of the University through the provision of:

  • drafting and placement of job advertisements
  • developing attraction and retention initiatives
  • facilitation and support for the Senior staff recruitment process, and
  • advice and processing on visa nominations for existing and newly appointed staff.

Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW)

Supporting the University to ensure safe systems of work, a safe work environment and a Healthy University community through the provision of:

  • an effective HSW Management framework (which includes policies, processes and templates)
  • consultancy services, training, advice and support across the University
  • effective injury management (ie workers compensation, rehabilitation)
  • effective monitoring, measuring and evaluation of health, safety and wellbeing activities and performance to enable continuous improvement (eg internal audit and systems review)
  • targeted wellbeing programs (eg employee assistance program), and
  • effective incident investigation of incidents/injuries to minimise the risk of recurrence.

Workforce Information Unit (HR Systems and Reporting)

Leverage the University's information technology capabilities to provide workforce information through:

  • development and dissemination of managerial reports
  • extension of the HR system capabilities to meet business needs
  • support to staff access to HR information through self service, and
  • maintenance of the HR system and system access rights.
