Academic Leaders Program
Program Overview
The Academic leaders program has been designed specifically for leaders in, or moving into, Heads of School, Associate Deans, Directors of Centres or Institutes, Heads of Research or equivalent leaders. The program design combines theoretical learning and environment scans with practical tools and skill development to support Academic leaders in their challenging roles. Building on the experience of each participant the program aims to enhance and develop the necessary awareness, knowledge, skills and support required to excel within an Academic leader role. The program brings together Academic leaders from around the University, providing an opportunity to build networks and develop a lasting cohort.
Learning Outcomes
The program aims to equip participants with the necessary knowledge, skills and tools to excel within an Academic Leader role. In particular:
- increase awareness of the expectations of Academic Leader roles
- provide enhanced understanding of the external and internal drivers for change within both the sector and the University of Adelaide
- prepare participants to face the emerging environmental challenges faced by the University of Adelaide
- develop critical leadership capability to enhance present performance and prepare participants for the challenges and demands of the future
- increase understanding and ability to serve as a primary agent of change for University strategy, policies and procedures
- create a cohort of Academic leaders from across the University

Briefing Session

The Briefing Session is your opportunity to meet the facilitator and coach Larry Marlow and to find out the details of the program that you will be participating in. It is also an opportunity for Larry to meet the group and get an idea of the individual challenges that the group may be facing.

Provider
The program is delivered by Larry Marlow, Managing Director of Marlow Hampshire. Larry's professional experience includes time as an academic and researcher and he has to-date worked as a consultant with over 32 Universities in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific.
Cost
Leading at Adelaide programs are funded by the Leadership Development budget, there is no direct cost to the Area/School.
Enrolment
Participants are asked to speak with their Executive Dean if they wish to be nominated. The nomination process will begin in February 2013.
