University Management Practices

The University Management Practices program is a series of short seminars that provide contextual awareness for managing within the University. The program includes seminars on:

Communication - Legal & Risk Consequences - The seminar explores: (1) how to manage internal and external communications; (2) the legal responsibilities for managers and staff; and (3) practical strategies and processes for managing risk of verbal and written communications.
Who should attend: Managers and staff responsible for internal and external communications.

Understanding the Media - The seminar provides: (1) insight in to how to respond to the media enquiries; (2) an overview of the responsibilities of managers and staff; and (3) practical strategies and processes for managing interviews and written responses.
Who should attend: Managers and staff who engage with the media.

Contracts Administration - Connecting the Dots: Recognising and Responding to Legal and Risk Issues. The seminar provides: (1) the core concepts underpinning the management of contracts, compliance and risk in the University; (2) the interdependency between contracts, compliance and risk; (3) how to improve awareness of the ‘domino effect'; and (4) how to assess and manage compliance, contract and risk issues once you have recognised them.
Who should attend: Managers and staff who need to know how to spot and handle legal and risk issues.

Governance - This seminar: (1) provides an overview of the University's governance and structure; (2) introduction to the University's governance web-site; (3) an overview of the legislation governing the University; and (4) discussion on University governance authorities.
Who should attend: Managers and staff who want to gain a broad appreciation of how the University functions and its legislative obligations.

University Policy Framework - This seminar provides: (1) an overview of the University's Policy Framework; (2) explores how the University's Policy Framework integrates with organisational governance; and (3) introduces policy terminology, for example, policy, framework, procedures, guidelines, forms, business processes, and so on.
Who should attend: Managers and staff who are required to interact with or implement University policies.

Managing University Meetings and Minutes - This seminar explores the: (1) University templates for recording meetings; (2) process and contacts for organising meetings; and (3) liaison with stakeholders.
Who should attend: Staff responsible for organising meetings and recording minutes.
