University Professional Leaders Program

Program Overview

The University Professional Leaders Program is a customised development opportunity to enhance the leadership skills of senior managers who lead a service or resources based portfolio. The program is designed to build Professional managers leadership capability across the University and to provide context for their contribution to the University.

Learning Outcomes

  • Gain a deeper insight into the University, its strategic imperatives and the role senior managers' play to support/enable the University.
  • Explore individual leadership styles and the impact on colleagues.
  • Connect with, review and apply theories and thinking related to crucial leadership topics including, ethics and performance management.
  • Understand the key principles for the management of work and the leadership of people.
  • Distinguish between collective and individual leadership responsibilities.
  • Build the capability to influence, drive and lead organisational change and transition.
  • Confidently develop and manage resources.
  • Understand the benefits of managing key relationships.
  • Create cross-function networks.

Who should attend?

This program is suitable for Professional staff in senior management roles (or key HEO9 - HEO 10 identified through succession planning). Participants will be identified via the Planning, Development and Review (PDR) process and nominated by the VP(S&R), DVC&VP(A), DVC&VP(R), Executive Deans or Branch Directors.

Program Details

This program is workshop based, runs for six months and includes: (1) an individual leadership inventory; (2) interactive discussions; (3) project team work; and (4) programmed reading. There are three modules and a recall day.

Module 1: Introduction to leadership (residential)
Module 2: Leading Self and Teams
Module 3: Leading the University
