Recruitment and Selection

The University of Adelaide is interested in recruiting and retaining the best academic and administrative staff and seeks individuals to fulfil our desire for new ideas and fresh approaches. The University pro-actively seeks out groups that are under-represented in our staffing profile to maximise our potential to meet diverse student needs and identify innovative research and teaching directions.

The University's Recruitment Policy and Guidelines incorporates a number of commitments to equity and diversity. These commitments include:

  • to ensure that the recruitment and selection process has been fair and equitable and that the best effort was made to pro-actively seek qualified staff from groups that are under-represented in the staffing profile of their area
  • an aim to ensure that at least 30% of academic staff in any given School will be female
  • to ensure that Convenors of Appointment Committees receive training in recruitment and equity principles and are held accountable for ensuring a fair and equitable process from beginning to end.
  • an aim to ensure that at least 30% of the members of an Appointment Committee are trained in recruitment and the principles of equity.

The Human Resources Recruitment Toolkit provides further information and strategies to promote inclusive recruitment practices to develop a more diverse staff profile and consider equity and diversity issues in the recruitment process. The goal is to broaden the field of qualified candidates and attract applications from candidates who might not otherwise think of applying to work at the University of Adelaide.

The Recruitment Toolkit also provides specific information on equity and diversity issues to consider in the recruitment process.

Groups that are under-represented in the University

The University encourages and supports the employment of academic and administrative staff from the following groups currently underrepresented in the University's staffing profile:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • women (specifically for academic and senior management positions)
  • people of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
  • people who have a disability.
