Equity and Diversity Grant Scheme

The Equity and Diversity Grant Scheme is an initiative of the GED Committee and endorsed by the Vice-Chancellor' Committee. The Scheme provides seed funding of up to $5,000 for new and innovative strategies that enhance equity and diversity for students and staff at the University of Adelaide.

The Grants will support initiatives that have a long term impact and bring about positive structural and cultural changes to address equity and diversity issues.

Staff members or groups in the University are encouraged to apply for funding to develop initiatives in their area.

Implementing a workshop on LGBT issues in psychology

Project Outline

Lecture and Tutorial for psychology undergraduate students that aims to raise awareness of and provides students with some knowledge of the lives and psychological needs of LGBT  population.  Also consistent with Australian guidelines for psychology course accreditation requirement to include cultural diversity.

Retaining HDR Students in academia: Is gender still relevant?

Project Outline

Research to explore the issues for Women in non-traditional fields of study in Higher Degree by Research and the reasons they give for choosing (or not) for pursuing an academic career.  In a departure from traditional research both males and females will be studied with responses compared. Research finding in relation to the two genders will be gathered across two faculties, (Sciences and Health Sciences) to answer the research question:  Is gender still relevant in retaining HDR students in academia.

Increasing women's participation and retention in minerals and energy undergraduate and graduate programs

Project Outline

An understanding of the positive and negative aspects held by women in relation to the University's minerals and energy resource and undergraduate and graduate programs. These findings provide a guide to design methods that can increase participation in these programs and enhance the quality of their experience.  The project will also create a network structure providing exposure to female role models .

Digital Divisions: Improving equity in learning for students from diverse backgrounds through enhanced digital access and digital skill acquisition

Project Outline

Research into the impact of differing amounts of digital media exposure prior to University and the impact on study outcomes for the four comparative minority student groups:

(i) indigenous students
(ii) students with a disability
(iii) students from rural regions both domestic and International
(iv) mature age students >40yo first time entry into University.
