Academic Probation - Your Role as a Member of Staff

You have a responsibility to actively participate in the probationary process to ensure that you develop as a valuable member of academic staff at the University.

First six months of employment

Probationary Objectives should be set within your first six months at the University.  The objectives should identify what measures will be put in place to dermine whether the objectives have been met over the course of your probationary period.

Performance reviews

During your probationary period you will participate in two or more performance reviews. The Mandatory Performance Reviews with your supervisor are an opportunity for you to:

  • clarify your understanding of the probationary expectations and the standards that are expected of you in relation to your performance;
  • receive clear and constructive feedback about your performance; and
  • discuss whether or not the probationary objectives are achievable, appropriate and relevant.

Preparing for a Mandatory Performance Review

Your supervisor will ask you to complete the Mandatory Performance Review form.
