Outside Work and Work Beyond Normal Working Hours (General Staff)

1. Except with the express permission of the Vice-Chancellor, whose permission may at any time be withdrawn, no employee shall -

1.1 accept or continue to hold an office in or under the Government of any State or the Commonwealth, or in or under any public or municipal corporation; or

1.2 accept or continue to hold or discharge the duties of, or be employed in a paid office in connection with, any banking, insurance, mining, mercantile, or other commercial business whether carried on by any corporation, company, firm or individual; or

1.3 engage in or undertake any such business, whether as principal or agent; or

1.4 engage or continue in the private practice of any profession occupation or trade, or enter into any employment, whether remunerative or not, with any person, company or firm who or which is so engaged; or

1.5 accept or engage in any remunerative employment other than in connection with the duties of the office or offices held for the University.

2. Nothing herein contained shall be deemed to prevent an employee from becoming a member or shareholder only of any incorporated company, or of any company or society of persons registered under any law in any State or elsewhere.

3. Notwithstanding paragraph 1, an employee may act as a director of a company or incorporated society -

3.1 with the permission of the Vice-Chancellor under the terms of paragraph 4 and in accordance with the conditions, if any, to which that permission is subject; or

3.2 in accordance with the requirements of the duties of the employee's employment or otherwise on behalf of the University, but not otherwise.

4. The Vice-Chancellor may, in such cases or circumstances, and subject to such conditions (if any), as it prescribes, grant to an employee in writing, permission to act as a director of a company or incorporated society.

5. The Vice-Chancellor shall not, under the terms of paragraph 4, grant permission to an employee to act as a director of a company or incorporated society unless it is satisfied that there will not be, or appear to be, any conflict between the duties of the employee's employment and the duties of the directorship.

6. The Vice-Chancellor may, at any time, by notice in writing to an employee revoke a permission granted under the terms of paragraph 4.
