Head of School/Department and Dean Loading

Before taking up their appointment, Heads of Schools/Deans will reach an agreement with Executive Deans on the performance standards by which they will be held accountable. These will be outlined in the Role Statement For Heads of Schools. Within the first month of their appointment the Executive Dean will consult and reach agreement with the head on performance indicators relevant to the role so that they reflect accurately the particular priorities of the School and Faculty. The agreement will encompass the professional development of the head/dean as well as the remuneration. The negotiated loading should reflect the nature and scope of the head/dean position.

A Head of School/Dean loading:

  • shall be for the period of the term of the appointment
  • is not superannuable
  • may cease if the head/dean is absent from duty beyond a continuous minimum period of four weeks. The loading will be reinstated upon their return to work. An alternative arrangement may be specified in the employment contract
  • can be taken as cash or sacrificed to Unisuper (Award Plus Plan).
