Sample Job Advertisements

Advertising

Advertising helps to market the University and what it stands for, and what separates us from our competitors.

Once the recruitment process has been mapped out, the next step is to complete a Request to Advertise Form (RTA), which brings together all the key information required for approval to fill a position. This includes:

  • position data
  • the process by which candidates will be attracted to the position
  • supporting documentation
  • any requirement for a pre-employment medical
  • faculty funding
  • authorisation.

Before you draft your advertisement using the template below, ensure you have a good grasp on what the job is and what it will involve, this will help you better write the advertisement and to better sell the role.

Once complete, submit to the Request to Advertise Form (RTA) form to HR and attach the following:

  • the selection criteria for the position
  • a draft advertisement detailing/selling the position on offer

Copies of these forms will also need to be emailed to the Recruitment Services Team in Human Resources in Word format in order to facilitate online advertising.

All advertising documentation needs to be received in Human Resources by close of business on a Thursday for the advertisement to appear at the end of the following week.

Advertising Template

The Advertising Template may be varied to meet the specific needs of a position. This template is a guideline split into two parts for advertising. It allows for a full advertisement (a longer version which appears online) and a shorter advertisement (used only for the print media). All advertisements are placed on the University Jobs website at no cost to the Area.

How to Write an Effective Job Advertisement

An effective job advertisement is one that is written clearly and that captures the candidates interest enough to apply. It is important to know your target audience, and include the benefits that would appeal to that particular group. Use this guide to writing effective advertisements and refer to the sample advertisements below to assist when drafting the job advertisement.
