Conditions of Appointment

There are many issues to consider when preparing to appoint an individual, including different conditions for the appointment of Fixed-term Academic Staff and Tenurable/Tenured Academic Staff. Please refer to the Tools (right) for the specific conditions that relate to your appointment.

The Employment Contract

Once you have considered the Conditions of Appointment you can then complete the Appointment Form. Actual contract preparation primarily lies with Employee Services in the Human Resources Branch however you are required to complete the appropriate forms to begin the process.

The Appointment Form details information specific to the appointee, the selection process, the position title/number, the position circumstances, the agreed remuneration, the weekly hours of duty, and any OH&S risks attached to the position.

Once complete, it is essential that the form is then signed by the Faculty/Divison Finance Manager and the Head of School/Branch Manager and forwarded in hard copy to Human Resources, Employee Services at Level 13, 115 Grenfell Street, Adelaide, together with the individual's Curriculum Vitae and Referee reports.

Please note if the form is not signed by the Faculty/Divison Finance Manager and the Head of School/Branch Manager it will cause delays in processing the contract.

How To Manage Your Candidate

If you hire a candidate who is not due to take up their appointment for three, six, or 12 months, it is important to keep in regular contact with them until their start date. This is known as 'after contract care'. This will be beneficial as the candidate will have had a good experience leading up to their commencement and will feel welcomed into the University.
