Occupational Trainee Visa (Subclass 442)

This visa allows people to complete workplace-based training in Australia on a temporary basis. The training must provide people with additional or enhanced skills in the nominated occupations, tertiary studies or fields of expertise.

Who is this visa for?

This visa is for people from outside Australia who want to improve their occupational skills through training with an Australian organisation or government agency. People may be nominated for this visa if the proposed occupational training is one of the following:

• training or practical experience in the workplace required for the person to obtain registration for employment in their occupation in Australia or in their home country
• a structured workplace training program to enhance the person’s existing skills in an eligible occupation

• structured workplace training to enhance the person’s skills and promote capacity building overseas.

What does this visa let me do?

This visa allows people to participate in approved occupational training in Australia.

This visa may be valid for up to two years to undertake an approved training program (subject to the length of the approved training program). An additional two months may be added beyond the training end date to allow you and your family members to make arrangements to leave Australia or to apply for another visa.

For this visa The University of Adelaide must sponsor and nominate the visitor.

The Faculty/School where the academic will visit must complete a Form 1378 available from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) www.immi.gov.au -  in the top right hand corner search for ‘form 1378’.

How much will this visa cost?

Nomination Application fee payable by University of Adelaide is:  $145.00 (non-refundable).  Human Resources will pay this fee by credit card and recover it from the School.

Please note: The University must not recover, or seek to recover, from the sponsored visitor, expenditure by the University in relation to financial support of the sponsored visitor in Australia.

The Visiting Academic will have to pay a non-refundable visa application charge when they lodge their visa application.
