Call for Papers

You are invited to join in an Indigenous Languages Conference, to be held at the University of Adelaide
in September 2007. The Conference will run as part of LINGAD2007, which combines the Indigenous Languages
Conference, the Australian Linguistics Society conference, and AUSTRALEX (concerned with making dictionaries),
during the same period. This will allow various people involved in Language work to meet and discuss
issues that involve all of us.
Call for Papers / Workshops / Panels
We are now asking for people who would like to present on any topic related to the use and
strengthening of Australia’s Indigenous languages, run a workshop or panel, or be part of a panel. Indigenous
Language workers and Indigenous teachers of Australian Languages are particularly encouraged to participate.
Some ideas for topics might include:
- Dictionary Projects
- Interpreting and Translation
- Language Maintenance
- Language Renewal/Reclamation
- Language and the Law
- Language and Health
- Cultural and Linguistic Survival
- Language and Native Title
- Language Politics
- Indigenous Languages Education
- Developing Resource Materials
- Language Resources and How to Access Them
- Language Planning
- New words and new ways of saying things
- Other
Different kinds of presentations are welcome.
We suggest:
- 20 minute talk + 10 minute Q&A
- 30 minute AV / multimedia presentation
- 1 hour workshop
- Panel
If you have an idea for a presentation/paper but are a bit unsure and want to talk about it first,
why not email us or give us a call! We will be happy to discuss your idea with you, and help you develop
it into a great presentation/paper.
If you would like to present at the 2007 Indigenous Languages Conference, please submit a one page summary.
Please include the following information in your summary:
- Name(s) of author(s) (this will be removed for reviewers to consider your submission anonymously)
- Organization or institution (if any)
- Email address or preferred contact details
- Title of presentation or workshop
- Keywords
- Summary of your proposal including a list of references if relevant.
Submitting your summary
You have three choices for sending us your proposal. If possible, we would prefer to receive them
by email or through our Abstracts page. However, you can also send them by post if you prefer – please
see details below.

Please save your summary as PDF or .rtf document. The title of the saved file should include
your name and the conference name, in the form: YOURNAME_ILC2007. In the email Subject Line please include
your family or surname again: "NAME ILC abstract" . Send the abstract to ilc2007@adelaide.edu.au.

Please send your summary to us by 31st May 2007. We will let you know
whether your proposal has been accepted by June 30th 2007. The accepted proposals will be made available
