IMER provided two top-up PhD scholarships for postgraduate students undertaking chemistry research under the supervision of CET's Associate Professor Greg Metha.
PhD students Trystan Bennett and Jason Alvino are working on projects involving the study of metal clusters (<1 nm particles) as catalysts. Physical chemist Trystan Bennett said the project is investigating the catalysis and mechanism for bimetallic clusters upon the photocatalytic splitting of water - which has implications for solar energy storage.
The photoelectrolysis of water into hydrogen is a subject of research which has seen intense growth over the past decade with the use of semi-conductors as both light absorbers and energy converters the most appealing research pathway.
