Dr Paul Medwell awarded $375,000 in the Inaugural round of Discovery Early Career Researcher Awards (DECRA)
The new ARC scheme, "Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA)" has been developed to address the competitiveness of early career researchers as a separate element of the Discovery Projects scheme.
This new scheme component provides more focused support for early-career researchers in both teaching and research and research-only positions.
Dr Paul Medwell was successful in securing a Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) for funding to commence in 2012.
Dr Medwell's successful $A375,000 proposal is over three years (2012 to 2014) relating to ‘Resolving flame stabilisation mechanisms in the transition to moderate or intense low oxygen dilution (MILD) combustion'.
DECRA, a new Australian Research Council (ARC) scheme, has been developed to address the competitiveness of early career researchers as a separate element of the Discovery Projects scheme.
Dr Medwell's project concerns next-generation combustion technologies, required in the transition to more efficient and less polluting energy production.
The project addresses the important issue of understanding flame stabilisation on a fundamental level to facilitate the design and development of more efficient and sustainable combustion systems.
Dr Medwell is a member of the Centre for Energy Technology (CET).
