University of Adelaide Security Service
Bike lock loan service
If you are caught short without a bike lock, Security can loan you one.
They have a 'mega' chunky chain with plastic sleeve and strong pad lock.
Present at security office with your Student or staff photo ID card and request a lock. They will add your contact number to the card and swipe out the lock and chain. The lock is issued with pad lock open – no key is issued.
To unlock your bike visit security again and swipe out the key. For the right key you will need to know the number stamped on the lock. The lock and chain must be returned to Security straight away.
Bike locks are for short term/and day use only. Remember when buying a bike lock you get what you pay for. A good quality D lock is best. A flimsy chain or cable is no defence against bolt cutters. If you have an expensive bike also use one of the bike enclosures.
There is no sign off required although it is agreed that in the unlikely event the lock is cracked open, the University is not responsible for the stolen bike.
