Flagship barley tipped to be new summer crop
Malting barley could become a summer crop, with a new variety called flagship
barley developed by the University of Adelaide. It was planted in
early December and is due to be harvested towards the end of March. Dr
Jason Eglinton, Barley Breeding Programme, said "It's very sensitive to day-length
so it responds to a December planting time by really rapidly going through its
growth cycles."
