Lung testing program for firefighters
A University of Adelaide program will do annual testing of about 800 SA firefighters to find out whether their job is adversely affecting their health. Associate Professor Alan Crockett, Director of the Primary Care Respiratory Research Unit, said the program stems from findings of significant lung damage in emergency services personnel who were involved in the 9/11 rescue and clean up in New York. "We're keen to get started and do measurements on the South Australian firefighters so that we've got any information should a disaster or major fire occur in the future that might cause problems," he said.

French revelations in Little Theatre

The University of Adelaide Theatre Guild's production of Marat/Sade is running in the Little Theatre from Tuesday - Saturday until 18 August at 7:30pm.

Peter Weiss's modern classic is set in 1808 in the asylum of Charenton, where the infamous Marquis de Sade is an inmate. In a "play with the play", de Sade is directing a play he has written about the assassination in 1793 of the French revolutionary figure Jean-Paul Marat - played by Dr Ben McCann from the Discipline of French Studies.

In de Sade's production, the players are the inmates of the asylum, and the audience is the local bourgeoisie - who get more than they bargained for!

University of Adelaide staff and students can see Marat/Sade for the special price of $15 on Tuesday 7 and 14 August (normal price is $25 Full / $20 Concession) available from the Theatre Guild on 8303 5999 or online at:

Florey Foundation Art Exhibition

Date/Time: Wednesday 26 September 2007, 6:30pm
Venue: Bonython Hall
Entry: $20.00 per person includes wine and Canapés.

The Florey Medical Research Foundation's Art Exhibition has been an enormous success for the past three years, attracting over 300 participating artists each year. Each year we have been overwhelmed by the interest and support from National and South Australian professional artists, amateur artists, art students, school students and kindergarten kids.

Over 800 art collectors attended last year's Exhibition Opening Night Cocktail Party.

This year the exhibition is titled "Florey Fourth Famous ArtFest" and for the fourth year in a row we have been delighted with the commitment and enthusiasm of so many artists.

The novel idea behind this exhibition still captures the imagination! Contributing artists are given a 40cm x 50cm blank canvas, they create a painting of their own subject, and donate the painted canvas back to the Florey Medical Research Foundation.

Artists can choose any subject, in any medium - paintings are signed only on the back of the canvas. Thus no painting is identified until after the painting is sold. Every painting is just $250.00 each.

Guests can view the paintings until 7:15pm. The Exhibition will also be open on Thursday 27 September, 11:00am-4:00pm.

All proceeds go directly to important medical research through The Florey Medical Research Foundation at the University of Adelaide.

For more information, please contact robponti@internode.on.net (phone 8267 1919, mob: 0407 711 517) or Judith Turner, phone 8303 5211.

The Ediacara fossils, discovered 60 years ago in the Flinders Ranges, are of worldwide significance as they provide our first glimpse of large multicellular organisms. The recently listed Nilpena heritage site provides a unique open air museum where these extraordinary fossils can be studied "in situ", revealing a whole new world of information as to their origin and significance.
