Uni in the NewsCultural Revolution: The Russians who nurtured ballet in AustraliaThe Australian Ballet, the University of Adelaide and the National Library of Australia are undertaking a four-year joint research project, "Ballets Russes in Australia: Our Cultural Revolution". The Ballets Russes companies had a lasting effect on the arts in Australia, following three highly successful tours in the 1930s. Those visits have been called the greatest theatrical events in our cultural history. They brought 47 works to Australia, 20 of them from the original Serge Diaghilev repertoire. A symposium on the Ballets Russes at the University of Adelaide in May takes a detailed look at this cultural revolution, and how it continues to influence Australian dance today.
