Investment restrictions might have hidden cost
Policy makers should not kid themselves that locking out investment capital from our most important trading partner, China, will be without cost.
Professor Chris Findlay, Head of School of Economics at the University of Adelaide, and Peter Drysdale of the Australian National University present the first detailed academic critique of the contradictions and policy departures of Australian investment policy this year. They present their paper, Chinese Foreign Direct Investment in Australia: Policy Issues for the Resource Sector, at the ANU.
"FDI in the resource sector offers a number of advantages to the host country including the provision of capital, technology, know-how and access to markets," professors Findlay and Drysdale said.
