"Scientists, economists, and other rent seeking creatures I have known: recollections of a dismal scientist" Research Tuesday with Professor Janet Hiller"Widgets, gadgets and other health technologies: Using evidence, priorities and values to guide choices" Janet Hiller is Professor of Public Health and Deputy Head of the School of Population Health and Clinical Practice. She is Director of Adelaide Health Technology Assessment (AHTA). All health care systems in the world "set priorities and make choices", but how do we inform policy makers about which health care interventions should be supported or promoted? Increasing use is being made of health technology assessment, which evaluates the safety, effectiveness, and social and ethical implications of different types of health care to guide decisions about health care policy and practice in Australia and elsewhere. School of Mathematical Sciences Colloquium SeriesKey Predistribution in Grid-Based Wireless Sensor Networks Abstract: Wireless sensors are small, battery-powered devices that are deployed to measure quantities such as temperature within a given region, then form a wireless network to transmit and process the data they collect. We discuss the problem of distributing symmetric cryptographic keys to the nodes of a wireless sensor network in the case where the sensors are arranged in a square or hexagonal grid, and we propose a key predistribution scheme for such networks that is based on Costas arrays. We introduce more general structures known as distinct-difference configurations, and show that they provide a flexible choice of parameters in our scheme, leading to more efficient performance than that achieved by prior schemes from the literature.
