Visiting Student Juliane Schuppich
6 month visit from Germany
“My project was about a special type of glass and trying to modify its properties. I was given the opportunity to do things myself and I was very proud of my first successful glass production.”
I was really worried before I arrived that I would have problems getting to know people and if I could do a good job. However, I had nothing to be worried about as I easily got to know so many nice people who I worked with and spent time together socially.
While working on my project I did many interesting new things. It was a great contrast to the sometimes monotonous course work study. My project was about a special type of glass and trying to modify its properties. I was given the opportunity to do things myself and I was very proud of my first successful glass production. It was valuable spending time here and I learned many practical things you cannot learn from a book.
Australia is an exciting country with an amazing range of landscapes many of which I experienced firsthand. This included visiting rainforests, deserts and mountain ranges. The expansiveness of the outback is amazing. I really enjoyed observing the wildlife, including kangaroos, emus and lizards. I also visited Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, each with its own nice character and many things to discover.
However I fell in love with Adelaide. For me it is a big city and I agree with what people say that it has the advantages of a big city but the charm of a small country town. Its many green parks are just beautiful and the people here are gorgeous.
I really enjoyed my time here, learned a lot and can’t wait to come back!
