Generic Accounts

Generic accounts can be manually created by ITS to meet business needs.

Reasons for generic accounts

  • Email Accounts:
    • Accessed by group of people eg. helpdesk @adelaide.edu.au
    • Roles with changing staff eg. auupresident @adelaide.edu.au
  • Events such as enrolments, open days, conferences and information days.
    • Access to student suites only with NO Internet access.
    • Access to student suites AND Internet access (requires an account code for charging - Departments/Areas need to accept financial responsibility for internet usage).
  • Accounts for staff computers with a special purpose in research areas.

Requests and Authorisation

Requests must be submitted using the Generic Accounts Form.

Authorisation for all generic accounts must be given by the Head of School or Branch Head and be submitted using the Generic Accounts Form.

Generic accounts must have one person nominated as being responsible for that account. 

Generic accounts are manually deleted by ITS when the account expires, or at the request of the person responsible for the account.

Password Resets

Generic account password resets must be requested by email from the nominated responsible person and sent from a University of Adelaide email address. When requesting a Generic account password reset please consider others users of the generic account. It is the responsibliity of the requestor to advise other users that the password has been changed.

Generic Account Services
Email Select if the account requires an email address, not all generic accounts will require an email address.
Internet Select if External Internet Access is allowed. The School/Area will be responsible for all internet traffic charges
Staff Computers Select if the account needs access to a staff desktop computer. Generic staff accounts do not allow access to Shared folders OR Personal folders. A personal account is required for this level of access.
Student Computers Select if the account needs access to a student desktop computer suite.

Costs

There are no costs associated with having generic accounts created.

If Internet access is requested, the School/Area will be responsible for all internet traffic charges.

Timelines

Forms will be processed by ITS within four working days of receipt. The services will be available by the Begin Date provided the form was received by ITS at least five working days beforehand.

Delays will be experienced if an incomplete form is recieved.
