Office Communicator Pilot

Office Communicator better known as OCS was introduced to a number of staff members included in the pilot project in 2008.  OCS continues to run in a semi production environment for approximately 300 staff.  The number of licenses is limited until the University makes a firm decision on the future of desktop communications.  

Currently the tool either indicates or provides:

  • Staff presence
  • Instant messaging
  • File Sharing
  • Security control, auditing and logging
  • Face to face video plus Interface between Audio Visual equipment and desktop client

  • Increases Effectiveness and Productivity
  • Reduces travel by online and real time communication and collaboration

Access and Support:

Access to Office Communicator can be requested but is not guaranteed due to limited license numbers. Make a request by calling the ITS Service Desk on 8303 3000 or emailing the ITS Service Desk your USER ID (a1234567), COMPUTER HOST NAME and Operating System (Windows 2000, XP or Vista).

Support is limited. Outages to the service can be expected when configuration changes are made or problems occur. There are no guarantees the service will be available 100%.

There are two ways to use Office Communicator.

Software on your computer.

  • Installed when you request access.
  • Requires installation on other computers you may use.

Password is the same password you use for other University online services.
