How to find your Workstation / Host name

Windows 2000

There are two ways to find your Workstation / Host name in Windows 2000.

Double click on the Information Icon in the bottom right hand corner of your screen, this looks like a white letter ‘i’ in a blue circle, and should be located near the clock.

This will bring up some information about your computer, including your workstation name (host name).

 

If you cannot see this Information Icon, you can also find out your workstation name by click on the ‘Start button’, then go to ‘Settings’, ‘Control Panel’, and then click ‘System’.

Once you are in the ‘System Properties’ select the ‘Network Identification’ tab and your workstation name (host name) will be displayed next to ‘Full computer name’.

Vista

There are several ways to find your Workstation / Host name in Windows Vista.

1.

The easiest way is to use a keyboard combination. While holding the Windows key press the Pause/Break key.

The following window will open with System information include your 'Computer Name'

Click the ‘Start’ button in the bottom left hand corner of the screen. Then select ‘All programs’ and go up to the ‘Helpdesk info’, which should be near the top of the list.

This will bring up some information about your computer, including your Host Name.

Another way of finding your Host Name in Vista is by going to the ‘Start’ button and then the Control Panel.

In Control Panel, select ‘System’

This will display some information about your computer, including your Computer Name.

XP

There are two ways to find your Workstation / Host name in Windows XP.
