IT Policies and Procedures under Review

The IT Acceptable Use and Security Policy (ITAUSP) and its associated procedures were implemented in mid 2008 and are currently being reviewed. The policy and procedures have functioned extremely well and consequently there are no major changes being recommended, although several minor changes are being proposed.

Feedback on the revised policy and procedures is currently being sought prior to the policies being made available for wider consultation through the University Policies process.  Any comments should be emailed to Melissa Gibbs.  A summary of the issues considered during the policy revision is attached

The revised policy and procedures can be found at;

Overview of Issues considered and revisions included

There were 10 areas that required revision in the ITAUSP and 6 in each of the Access and Accounts Procedures and the IT Security Procedures. A further 10 issues were considered that required no action to be taken with respect to the policy. The key changes include;

  • A revised definition of ‘IT facilities and services' to clarify the relevance of the policy and procedures to social media and mobile communications devices etc.
  • Ensuring the policy and procedures reflect current business processes with respect to account creation and deletion.
  • Addition of sections to explicitly cover third party providers.
  • Ensuring the policy and procedures allow flexibility in logging, monitoring and potentially blocking web traffic.
  • Archiving the ‘All Student Email Policy' and ‘Guidelines for Posting on MyUni Forums' policies.

In addition, the best practice guidelines have been reviewed and several new sets added including Calendar best practice, Use of Library e-Resources, Posting on MyUni Forums and Social Media. Details are available on request from Melissa Gibbs.
