Mapping a Network Drive

This document explains how to map network drives on your computer so that they are easily accessible from 'My Computer'.

Although these instructions are for mapping S:, the same procedure can be used to map any drive letter or network folder.  If you are having difficulty mapping or accessing drives, try restarting your computer and if the problem persists contact the Technology Service Desk.  Instructions are provided for Windows and Mac OS X.

    Mapping a Shared Drive

Although the example below shows how to map your Shared folder S:, the same steps can be ued to map other drives.

    • Open 'My Computer' and click 'Tools' -> 'Map Network Drive'

    • Select 'S:' as the drive in the pulldown menu

    • Enter \\ad.adelaide.edu.au\Shared$ with the folder location you would like to map e.g. \\ad.adelaide.edu.au\shared$\Services_Resources\ITS\DMS\FAQ

    • Click 'Connect using a different user name' and enter 'UOFA\a1234567' (where a1234567 is your account name - omit the quotes)  in the user field as below, click 'Ok'
    • Ensure 'Reconnect at Logon' is ticked then click 'Finish'

    Mapping your U: drive

Mapping the U: drive is very similiar to mapping S:, except that after you have selected the U: drive you enter the folder location of you home drive e.g. \\ad.adelaide.edu.au\Users$\7\a1234567 where a1234567 is your account name and 7 is the last didgit of your account name.

    Mac OS X (Shared Drive)

    • Select 'Go' from the menu then click on 'Connect to Server'

    • You now need to connect to the correct shared server for your Faculty or Division.

The Server Address is in the following format:

      "cifs://%AREA%.ad.adelaide.edu.au/"
To determine the value of %AREA% please use the following table:

      %AREA%Faculty or Division
      uofadvcrDeputy Vice-Chancellor & Vice-President (Research)
      uofadvca Deputy Vice-Chancellor & Vice-President (Academic)
uofaecms Faculty of Engineering, Computer & Mathematical Sciences
      uofaexternal External Organisations
      uofahealth Faculty of Health Sciences
uofahums Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences
      uofaprof Faculty of the Professions
      uofasciences Faculty of Sciences
uofaservres Division of Services & Resources
      uofavcp Vice-Chancellor & President
For example, to connect to Services & Resources the Server Address would be the following:
                              Click Connect when done.

                            • You now need to enter your login details. It is important to enter "UOFA\" in front of your username. Click Connect when done.

                            • Please select with sub-area (be that a School or Department) that you wish to connect to. Click OK when done.

                            • The Shared folder for your School or Department is now availble inside Finder on OSX.

                            Mac OS X (Personal Drive)

Similar process to connecting to a shared drive, but using a different Server Address. The Server Address will depend on the last digit of your user ID:

                            Last DigitServer Address
                            0cifs://uofausers0.ad.adelaide.edu.au/users0/username
                            1cifs://uofausers1.ad.adelaide.edu.au/users1/username
                            2cifs://uofausers2.ad.adelaide.edu.au/users2/username
                            3cifs://uofausers3.ad.adelaide.edu.au/users3/username
                            4cifs://uofausers4.ad.adelaide.edu.au/users4/username
                            5cifs://uofausers5.ad.adelaide.edu.au/users5/username
                            6cifs://uofausers6.ad.adelaide.edu.au/users6/username
                            7cifs://uofausers7.ad.adelaide.edu.au/users7/username
                            8cifs://uofausers8.ad.adelaide.edu.au/users8/username
                            9cifs://uofausers9.ad.adelaide.edu.au/users9/username

For example, user a9988777 would use the following Server Address:
