File restoration

The files in your home folder are all stored on the network and are backed up every night.

You can recover files you may have accidentally deleted, or require a previous version of, yourself using the 'self service recovery' procedure described here.

Self service recovery is available for the previous 5 days. You can quickly and easily access previous versions of your files by clicking on "RECOVER deleted files off U drive' from the Program menu (see below), or by searching for files with the extension '.ckpt' on your U:

1. Selecting 'RECOVER deleted files off U drive' will bring up a window that has 5 folders in it which are the backups of your home folder that are available to you. The folders are named by the date that each back up was taken.

 

NOTE: These are taken at midday everyday. Ignore the GMT setting

2.       Select the folder time of your choice and double click on the folder name to view its contents. This folder will contain an exact copy of your files at the time that the backup was taken.

3.      Select the files that you want to restore and copy them to your home folder (U: drive). Please note that you will be unable to save files within the backup folders.

4.    Paste the files back in your home folder to fully recover them.

5.     You will now be able to resume working from the file/folders as normal.
